This is an image that I found on designer Paula Sola's website under her projects (www.paulasola.com/portfolio/projects/posters). This is actually a poster I used in my presentation on Wednesday, but I really liked it and thought it would work for my weekly image. It is a poster for an art nouveau exhibition that highlighted "The Four". It fits the Glasgow style with the typeface that was used in previous Glasgow posters by "The Four" and the style of the image. It's not as abstract as the original style, but the rose is a signature of their designs and the goemetric leaf shapes and lines feel like their style. Since it is a poster for the art nouveau style, the curves in the stems and the actual roses themselves fit the design. I like the clean cut look and the color scheme. The red really pops out against the black and white. I also like the way the designer organized the information on the right side of the poster with the border.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this image, I'm actually thinking about copying it and making it my background... But yeah, I really like that it fits in perfectly with the Glasgow style and looks as if it was made during that time. I also really love the colors because the red and the white are enough to grab your eye and draw you in.

I really like how abstract the flowers are. They have a slight three dimensionality to them if you look at them at a distance, but once you notice their individual petal pieces, you can tell immediately that it's pretty flat. One thing I noticed is that the text is stacked vertically, which is a no-no according to our Typography book.
ReplyDeleteI love how the poster is made up of white, black and red. It adds mood and character along with there being an interesting, organic design. The typography is interesting. It reminds me of the early alphabet characters.
ReplyDeleteI don't really care for this poster. I love the images of the roses but the typography just doesn't do it for me. For one thing it is stacked which is against typographic rule and secondly I feel like the typography with the ugly checkered border is completely detached from the rest of the image.
